“Universal” Lessons

Not everyone needs the same lessons.

Most of your choir needs to learn to focus more effectively during rehearsal, but one might need to learn to lighten up and be a little sillier in rehearsal.

Most of your private students need to learn to spend more time in the practice room, but one might need to be given a maximum time to ensure they don’t burn out.

Most of your team might need to learn to push themselves to their limits, but one might need to learn not to push themselves too far past them, into injury.

For every universal lesson, you will find the occasional student who doesn’t need to learn it, and actually might need to learn a lesson in opposition to it.

This knowledge doesn’t mean you shouldn’t stop teaching these “universal” lessons, but it means you do need to find a way to let those students know that this particular lesson isn’t for them.
