Be a forever teacher.
The end of the year is fast approaching, and with it the last chance to deliver messages to another group of graduating students. I’ve got a lot of ideas I want them to take with them. (Take risks! Keep singing!) The one I’m thinking about now is, I’m always your teacher.
The relationship changes…I’m not there to teach anymore, just to support, encourage, and cheer on. But I’m also there to help you out of a scrape, if given the chance. This week I was called by a former student who ran out of gas. “Mr. Scott, can you help?”
Most students won’t call on your support, but knowing it’s there can be a balm. I know I’ve been comforted knowing that I had some former teachers who were there if I needed them.
Don’t forget to say it out loud, before they graduate. “Once you’re my student, I’m always your teacher. I’m here when you need me.”
