How often do you spend time on the other side of the podium?
I’m at the New York Voices Vocal Jazz Camp this week, and one of the unexpected joys is singing in great rehearsals led by not me.
Adopting a different role in the music-making holiday is challenging, inspiring, and rejuvenating. It gives me ideas and gets me excited for the year to come.
It’s also a busman’s holiday – I’m literally paying to do what I do for my job…spend time in ensemble rehearsals. A busman’s holiday has a generally pejorative sense…why would you want to spend your vacation time doing your profession? But the right busman’s holiday brings you back to work uplifted and ready.
