Imposter

Imposter Syndrome hates getting started.

It seems to me that what Imposter Syndrome most wants is to stop you from doing whatever it is you’re feeling an imposter about.

What drives it home for me, most of all, is that imposter syndrome routinely disappears once you’ve started.

I was feeling it pretty hard this week as I got to Kalamazoo for New York Voices Vocal Jazz Camp. It lasted just a few minutes into the first class today, though. From then on, I was engaged in the work, and the voice quieted down. I saw people around me experience the same transition.

Knowing that Imposter Syndrome so easily dissipates once you’ve begun should be a great way to work through it. Just remind yourself: “This will stop as soon as I start.”
