Making music is always new, never the same as last time. New challenges, new ideas, new approaches, new collaborations. New pieces!
It’s one of the things that gets me excited about making music every day. I’ve never had two days in a row the same, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. My last two rehearsals with my group couldn’t have been more different. A piece I’m working on is coming out completely differently from the time I did it five years ago. The album I’m producing has similarities, but a lot of differences from the last one, too.
You can create systems to save you work, but even with the most elaborate systems there is always something new to work on. What a blessing.
