Do you ever give your rehearsal over to a year-in-review day?
Sing through every piece you did this year, talk about it, and then move on to the next. Some pieces, your singers will be delighted to sing again! Others they might wish they didn’t have to recall. More likely, different people will feel different ways about each piece.
It’s a great opportunity to reflect on the journey your choirs have been on over the course of the year. They might not even remember all the repertoire that they sang. They certainly will be surprised at the way they’ve grown individually and as an ensemble.
For me, it’s also a great opportunity to know where the dust is for our big end-of-year concert. But even without that looming ahead, I would still want to do this exercise. It’s fun and meaningful.
