Don’t stagnate, choose new things to try.
It’s easy to let next school year feel a lot like last school year; lean into the successes, don’t change what works!
But do that too much and you’re liable to stagnate. Stagnation is a problem for your students, who deserve innovation, for your program, which can’t grow without change, and for yourself, who will wear down without novelty.
So take this preparation time to choose three things to try. Make them of different stakes, different levels of challenging. It might be new repertoire, a new collaboration, new student travel. Maybe you want to read Alice Parker’s new book and do some new song leading during your concerts.
Make a list, and then see if you can’t try them this year.
