The Smallest of Nudges

The future of your program can depend on the smallest of nudges.

Do great work all year, recruit, make beautiful music, connect with and relate to your students…still some might decide not to stay in choir next year.

A give-back karaoke day and a solo that receives praise from peers might be all it takes to make a student change their mind…a tiny nudge that makes all the difference.

You can’t plan them, you can’t even predict them. These moments potentially happen every day, and can change student trajectories in any direction.

So you’ve got to be ready…you’ve got to be watching for them and then be able to capitalize on them to help your students.

I can think of moments in my own life that changed everything. If I hadn’t been sick that day, everything might have turned out differently. If I had spoken up a few minutes sooner or later, the entire path is different. I didn’t have the wide view of my own path that I can sometimes have for my students; I’m glad family, friends, teachers, and mentors did and were able to help me take advantage of those tiny moments to help direct my journey.
