If you’re making an avoidable mistake, it’s often because you’re moving too fast.
“Too fast” is when things get overlooked. “Too fast” is when you speak or write in shorthand that someone else misunderstands. “Too fast” is when you read an email and don’t reply. “Too fast” is when you don’t properly consider a decision before acting.
“Too fast” is often unavoidable, and teachers everywhere are fast approaching a pace in which “too fast” is the default.
So the pace is unavoidable, how do you avoid the mistakes? First, learn to recognize when you’re operating at that pace. Second, adopt a habit of taking a couple deep breaths before taking an important action. That pause is often enough to avoid catastrophe.
