More work means more better work.
I think that in most cases, the key determining factor in the making of great work is the volume of work.
This is regardless of what work you’re making. Being in more plays means more great acting. Writing more songs means writing more great songs. More TikToks means more great TikToks.
We don’t know this about great creators, because they keep a lot of their work out of sight. That means we hear only the top quarter of Paul McCartney’s songs, and get a mistaken impression of the average quality of his work. We hear Miles Davis Live at the Plugged Nickel, but we don’t hear every gig leading up to it. We see the final paintings of Van Gogh, but not all his rough drafts, sketches, and canvases he destroyed.
Young creators are hesitant to create more, and I wish for them the courage to make more. It’s the only way to get to great.
