What’s keeping students from staying focused in rehearsal?
I don’t think you can make great music without a spirit of gratitude.
I asked my students, in our last rehearsal in November, to look forward by looking inward.
Here are some of the traits that I see contributing to great collegiality.
Everything is practice.
Rehearsal: the one place I’m always focused.
Who do you want to work with? My answer comes down to this one Leonard Bernstein quote:
Music is the balm we all need.
Choirs don’t work without implicit trust.
You can be exhausted after a day of stillness.
