Your Teaching Should Change, Too

Our society has long been obsessed with marking the differences between “Generations” (basically arbitrarily marked) like Z, Millennial, X, etc. The obsession has seemed to ramp up in recent years.

The truth is, there are some noticeable and consistent differences in generations over time, though I think that they’re detectable in the span of 5-10 years, not 15-20.

And I think that along with detecting them, we need to change our teaching styles, too.

What worked for me in 2011 doesn’t work the same now – because the humans are generationally different.

What worked for me in 2003 didn’t work in 2011.

I think that if, after the first 5 years of your career, you were in the top 20% of connecting with and reaching your students, and then never changed, by year 30 you would be in the bottom 20%.

The students change. Your teaching should change, too.

Okay, Boomer?
