Rehearsals without fun are excruciating.
There are those who gladly sacrifice any fun for the sake of the music. I’m here to serve the music, too, and I believe in using every power I possess to make the music come alive.
But as far as I’m concerned, if you can’t find a way to make it joyful as well as productive, you are setting yourself and your choristers up for losing passion for the music-making. The joy is what brings you back. The laughter is what makes the hard work enjoyable. The camaraderie makes the frustration easier to bear, because you’re bearing it together.
Make it efficient. Make it productive. But make it fun.
