Don’t do it to win. Do it to enjoy.
We’re great at celebrating winning. Awards season, playoff games, Valedictorians, choir festival ratings, and 1,000 other things.
But “to win” isn’t a good reason to enroll in an experience. In fact, it can be detrimental to your longterm experience with it. The focus on betterment, on winning, can reduce enjoyment in any experience.
It’s better to focus almost exclusively on the actual enjoyment. If success follows, great. But whether you’re joining the varsity golf team, acting in a play or movie, taking an AP class, or supporting a pro sports team, the enjoyment should be the focus.
Enjoyment is sustainable. Winning isn’t.
