The last 20 years of educational shift has been to increase focus, spending, and requirements around STEM learning and decrease focus, spending, and even requirements around the humanities.
Which team are you on? Team STEM or Team Humanities?
For me, it’s a no-brainer. I believe that humanities increase empathy, enhance our exposure to the world beyond what’s between our ears, and make us wiser.
I believe STEM classes have the potential to better prepare us for future jobs in technology.
I am passionately interested in it all: math, science, engineering, and technology. But it is my study of literature, music, art, drama, language, and other humanities that has molded me into the human I am.
Put another way: S, T, E, and M are all really focused on the T – technology. People want our students to have more education in STEM to have jobs related to technology.
Would you rather your child finish school with more attention paid to TECHNOLOGY or to HUMANITY?
It should be a no-brainer.
