There’s a brief liminal space when you’re thinking about both wrapping up this year and planning for next year.
In a week, I’ll be almost entirely focused on next year – repertoire, organization, planning, coordinating.
Only a few weeks ago, I was laser focused on the task at hand: day-to-day rehearsal plans, concert scripts, booking event details, handling fires.
Right now, I’m juggling both – recording sessions this week featuring my current ensembles, but also auditions for next year’s group.
The split mind is difficult, but it’s brief. I try to keep the two responsibilities straight in my mind and on my to-do-lists, and remind myself of the blessing of having both present and future music to be made.
