Teachers need more tools to help students grapple with mental and emotional wellbeing.
I’ve recently begun listening to The Happiness lab, a podcast hosted by Dr. Laurie Santos, a professor of psychology at Yale. It’s a compelling look at how our brains cultivate – or undermine – happiness, and how we can better find happiness in our lives.
It’s especially compelling to me because her perspective is that of a teacher – as a professor at Yale, she found her students were suffering anxiety, stress, and depression at shockingly high rates, and sought to help students overcome their challenges, first with a lecture class, “Psychology and the Good Life” and now with this podcast.
Join me in listening! It offers great tools to use in supporting students. (You can also check out her free curriculum for high school students or take the online version of her course via Coursera.)
