How do you style switch in rehearsal?
If you conduct a multi-style choir (like most choirs), you have two choices in balancing the style:
- Stick in one style for an entire rehearsal, then pivot for the next rehearsal.
- Move between styles repeatedly in a rehearsal.
I’m a big fan of version 2. It takes mental work it takes to pivot tone, vowel shape, articulation, and so many other nuances. Definitely. But that work, over time, makes for flexible minds. Flexible minds can accomplish so much more than fixed minds.
