In a loose, conversational rehearsal, sometimes singers can trash their least favorite piece. They might have the best of intentions, but it always feels bad when someone criticizes something you love.
It’s good practice for life to recognize that we can have diverse opinions about and reactions to art. The more we can practice honoring that diversity, the better prepared we are to live in a plural society.
Choir is a perfect safe place to practice this. But it only gets practiced when we remind the singers to practice it.
