How soon after your first performance should you perform again?
I argue: as soon as possible. While the first performance is still fresh in your memory, a second performance gives you and your ensemble so many ways to grow and improve. I often say that the best thing about a first performance is a second performance, and the closer you can make the two, the more you can directly compare and grow from them.
Tonight, both of my ensembles are performing. One last performed a week ago, and the other last performed…yesterday! I’m looking forward to seeing them both grow, and look forward to fruitful pre- and post-concert conversations about that growth.
