I don’t know a better musical feeling than a premiere of something you’ve written.
There are a lot of musical moments that leave you feeling uplifted. As many times as I’ve premiered works I’ve written, or attended premieres by ensembles who have commissioned me, it never gets old.
The experience of writing can be fraught, but it usually ends in a happy place.
The experience of rehearsal is exhilarating – you finally get to hear glimpses of the piece.
But sharing music with an audience is when the circle is closed, and music actually comes to life. When that happens for the first time with a new work, it leaves me floating.
10/10 Highly Recommended.
