Pay attention to what you procrastinate.
Maybe you’re like me, and you think of “things I procrastinate” as completely overlapping Venn Diagram with “things I don’t want to do.” But I think that things we procrastinate fall into three categories.
- Things I don’t care about.
- Things I want done but don’t enjoy.
- Things I care about deeply and want to do well.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking everything you procrastinate falls into one category. The risk is that you won’t give attention to the things you care about because you lump them in with the things you don’t care about and the things you don’t enjoy.
Take a minute, make a list of the things you’re procrastinating right now. Do they all fall in one of these three categories?
