If You’ve Written Two…

Once you’ve done two, it’s easy to write a third.

I’m back in my mischief, pre-writing posts and giving myself future vacations. Part of that is that I’m having an increasing number of weekends when I’m offline, so I need to be planning ahead. Part of it is I have enjoyed two summers with a month off of writing.

But part of it is simply that it’s pretty easy to write more when you’re in the zone. When I have to write two little posts in one day, I make the first little one a delayed post for a future weekend, and then write the most urgent one last. It’s easy, it takes advantage of the flow state, and it is a gift to my future self.

Sometimes the cure for a surplus of work is to add more, less urgent work as well – giving yourself a gift in the future. Do that enough and eventually, you stop getting slammed with work all at once.

Want to know when I wrote this? Sept. 13, 2022.
