Sometimes, the outcome is frustrating even when you do everything right.
Nothing to be done: sometimes forces outside your control prevent you from succeeding. Today, half a dozen small and large events too the wind out of the sails of the Aces recording session. In a session, momentum is everything, and we were utterly unable to build any.
It wasn’t my fault, the engineer’s fault, or the students’ fault. It just…was.
I had to work really, really hard to not get frustrated, because I knew that wouldn’t help matters. I did my best to retain positivity, be enthusiastic and find the silver linings. Because I knew that several things were outside our control, I had nothing to do but to accept the outcome and know that tomorrow we’d find a solution.
It helps, of course, to remember similar stories of things happening to other artists I respect. That’s one of the reason I read nonfiction and listen to stories. Watching The Beatles Get Back documentary makes any frustrating day I have seem utterly mild.
