For many of the things in our lives, there is something holding us there. A paycheck. A graduation requirement. A life commitment.
When I look around the room of my ensemble in rehearsal, I think, “There is nothing holding them here.” No obligation, no law, no requirement.
The only thing holding my students in the ensemble – the only thing causing them to show up, week after week, is their own love for the experience.
That’s a special place to be. It’s a true blessing to have almost exclusively students who are there by choice. I do my best to honor it by making sure their love for the experience is respected, encouraged, and rewarded with positive experiences.
