Never Stop Teaching, Never Stop Learning

Both.

Never stop teaching. Even in an ensemble that’s not a school ensemble, take every chance you can to teach. For me, that means mostly widening the lens – giving a clearer perspective on what’s going on with the music or with the voice.

Never stop learning. Every rehearsal, every score, is a chance to fine tune your understanding of the infinitely complex art that is music. Whenever I feel a little confident in what I’m doing, I dig just a little deeper and start trying to understand the next level down.
