I’ll be writing about Alice Parker’s impact forever. Here’s another few words.
When I said goodbye to Alice in 2013, I didn’t really think we’d meet again. She was departing from the premiere of the arrangement she wrote for the Aces of the folk song “Cindy.” We had spent a few delightful days getting to know her, but it was hard to imagine a future where we’d spend weeks learning from her, collaborating with her, dining and laughing and singing with her.
Ten years later, I’m finally saying goodbye to her for good; and what a blessed decade it has been.
I have learned from her. I have called her my friend. I have spent blessed hours talking music, talking life, talking family with her. In that time she has been mentor, friend, and like bonus family.
It’s a blessing of the music world to meet remarkable people and to find ongoing relationships with like-minded souls.
I’ve met very few people whose light shone as bright as Alice’s. I count my family incredibly lucky to have gotten ten years of mentorship-friendship-familyship.
Thank you Alice.
