Choir offers many members a deep sense of belonging, purpose, and the chance to express themselves as themselves. I have seen it time and time again – in a big high school, being in choir makes it seem small. It’s personal, it’s safe.
Indeed, I think it makes not just the school seem small, but the world. Having a deep sense of belonging anywhere in your life makes your entire life more surmountable.
If we create the right spaces for our choir students, that is the the gift we give them.
