For most things you aspire to do, the answer is yes.
Has anyone grown up in the Midwest and become a session singer in LA? Definitely yes.
Has anyone gone to University A and gone on to perform on Broadway? Maybe.
Has anyone decided to start running at age 40 and run a marathon at 50? Thousands of times, probably.
But there are plenty of similar questions with answers of “No.”
Has anyone earned a degree in ceramic art and become the CEO of a Fortune 50 company? Probably not.
Has anyone won The Voice without ever practicing? Nope.
So the trick is this. Find a question regarding the future you want with an answer of “Yes.” Because that means that path is possible. In fact, look for paths that many have traveled before. Then you have a route to aim yourself down.
Additionally, once you’ve found one or more people who have already gone down the path you want to go down, contact them.
Contact. Them. Call them up, email them, DM them on Twitter. Because in many cases (most cases?), people love to hear from others who want to follow their path. They’ll have advice, they’ll know the pitfalls and wrong turns, and at the end of your conversation, you’ll be three steps farther down the path of your dreams.
