I am a firm believer in offering grace for our students.
Grace for their struggle, grace for their growth. Here’s why.
I want my students to bite off more than they can chew. I know they won’t know their limits until they blow past them, and when they figure out that they can’t survive on pizza, Red Bull, and 2 hours of sleep a night for a month, they’re going to need some grace.
I want them to try all the things available to them. Three sports, TV Studio, Boy Scouts, the fall play, a job, and an extracurricular choir? Let’s try to make it work, and offer grace for when you can’t do it all. (As long as everyone else has the same approach!)
Until we’ve taken on too much, we’ll never know what we’re capable of. And unless we know we won’t lose everything, we won’t be brave enough to try.
Tomorrow: what does grace look like when offered to students?
