I’m pretty rotten at drawing hands. As a doodler, that’s not a huge deal. In fact, I’ve just started drawing my people with arms that just end abruptly at the wrist. Since I’m drawing mostly for my kids, no big deal.
But it’s a great way to define the difference between an amateur and a professional.
An amateur recognizes something they aren’t good at – drawing hands, for example – and works around it.
A professional recognizes the same weakness, and spends the time practicing drawing hands over and over again, until it’s no longer a weakness.
In your art, what’s your equivalent of drawing hands? Do you want to address it like an amateur, or like a professional?
Both are fine, but they have very different outcomes.
