New this year, I needed to include an AI policy in my syllabi. I kept mine simple.
For all of my classes this term, I included the following two sentences:
It is not possible to complete the requirements of this class using AI. I do not recommend you use AI to complete schoolwork for any class.
I’m lucky: it’s not possible to let AI learn repertoire for ensembles or voice lessons, practice sight singing, or learn to play ii-V-I’s on the piano for you. And I don’t think it will be.
But my second sentence still stands; and if we can really enroll our students in the pursuit of the knowledge available to them, then they won’t have any desire to shortchange their learning with these digital shortcuts.
