Trans Day of Visibility falls on March 31 every year. It’s a day to put the needs and challenges of our trans family members, friends, students, colleagues, and neighbors to the front of our minds.
In the lead up to TDOV, there are many events that fall under the category of Trans Week of Visibility. In preparation for TDOV, here are several easy and important action steps you can take right now.
- Put your pronouns in your email auto signature.
- Begin to normalize offering pronouns in group situations, asking pronouns on audition forms, and respecting pronouns in all situations. (That also might mean occasionally calling people out for not using someone’s correct pronouns.)
- Follow local trans rights organizations and transgender advocates to increase the presence of these issues in your social media diet. Many of them are posting, sharing, offering events, and fundraising this week.
- Read non-opinion articles about trans issues: especially works grounded in actual science.
- Most important: right now across the country many, many bills are being introduced in state legislatures with the aim of limiting the rights of trans and non-binary Americans. Sign up in support, donate to organizations working to combat these bills, and speak out wherever and however you are able.
The statistics are clear: you have people in your life who are transgender or non-binary. Take action to support them.
