What will rehearsal be like if I’m not there?
I consider it my goal to teach myself out of a job by the end of the school year. (Never worrying, of course, because a new group with new needs will be with me soon.) That means that my ensemble should be perfectly comfortable holding rehearsal without me.
In fact, they should be perfectly efficient in rehearsal without me.
How do we get there?
- Specific goals.
- Consistent rehearsal techniques including time explaining why we’re rehearsing that way.
- Advance notice if I’m going to be gone.
- Something to motivate them in the future – a concert, a part test, etc.
- Trust.
