How do you stay focused on the big picture when it’s hard to get beyond today?
The tasks, the responsibilities, the small crises that make every day new just keep coming. But I try to give a few minutes every Sunday to staying ahead of the daily surprises.
A couple of minutes is all it takes to review my calendars to anticipate anything significant. It’s all it takes to make a mental list of what I want to accomplish in rehearsals. It’s all it takes to schedule-send a few important emails, to make sure my concert attire is ready, to know whether I’ve got to bake bread first thing on Monday.
It certainly takes me out of the weekend as soon as I do this quick review. But it gives me a big picture that helps to make sure I prioritize the right things and that the things I prioritize get attention.
