Twelve Years

Twelve years is a long time for a streak.

The last time I didn’t publish a post on my site, Donald Trump was still nine months away from announcing his first candidacy.

If I had started kindergarten when my streak started, I’d be ready to graduate high school. If I had started college, I could have completed medical school and a residency.

Some days, what motivates me to write is the streak. I definitely don’t want to give up a streak that now stands at 4,384 days.

But I also strive to remember what motivated me to start the streak in the first place.

I write because I want to share what I know. I write because it helps. I write because I understand my own perspective better for having written. I write because I love my community. I write because I love my career.

Twelve years is a long time for a streak, but it’s not even half of a 30-year career. It’s not even half the duration of my marriage (though it’s getting close….).

I hope my writing has made a difference in people’s lives, and I’ll keep writing because it makes a difference in mine.

In celebration of my anniversary, it’s TIP JAR week here at jedscott.com! If my daily writing has meant something to do, please consider sending me a little thank you – you’ll be helping pay for the expense of hosting, and support the musical work I do.
