Drop some balls today so you won’t have so many to juggle tomorrow.
The only way to stop feeling like you’re triaging your work life, day after day, is to turn away from today.
Drop everything, for a little while, and look further ahead. Two days, two weeks, a month out. Then triage what you would be triaging on that day.
Do that for as many days as you can, and you’ll find that, when those days arrive, you’ll have more spaciousness. To get even further away from triage and into strategy.
Along the way, you’re dropping balls, you’re sacrificing the elaborate dinner you’d like to make, and maybe even dropping some balls that someone else will have to pick up for you. That’s okay, because if you’re triaging every day, you and your coworkers will all be much happier once you’ve gotten out of that mode.
