It’s probably not, but today might be the day someone important is paying attention.
“Every day is an audition” is a mantra I adopted from my mentor, because it’s true and useful. If you’re auditioning for next year’s ensemble, I’m watching you every rehearsal, every day to see how you react, how you behave, how you contribute. It’s not just the audition day; it’s how you show up every day.
It’s also true that every day is an audition because today might be the day someone’s paying attention. If you’re posting yourself sing or play on Instagram every day, today might be the day that your musical hero sees and reposts it. If you’re writing, today might be the day someone with the power to publish you might be reading your words. If you’re speaking to a crowd, your next boss might coincidentally be in the twelfth row.
Don’t let this paralyze you – statistically, it’s almost definitely not today. But given that you’re going to be putting yourself out there, it’s worth making it the best you can, because it might be today.
