I’m busy enough that I ask the why of everything I commit to.
That includes things I’m re-committing to…even things I’ve done for 18 years or more.
Why do I want to do this?
Why am I volunteering these hours? Why am I taking this commission project? Why am I directing this group for another year? Why am I adding voice lessons to my busy schedule?
I’m a firm believe that income should never be the only piece of the answer. It can certainly be a piece, but there has to be more. Especially in creative work, if money is the only why, there are easier and more lucrative ways to make a living.
It can be a mission, it can be a human connection, it can be the way weekly rehearsals fire me up.
Don’t take on new projects – or continue doing old ones – without knowing why.
