When I’m adapting to a new schedule, the third week is when I figure it out.
The first week is about reacting, moment to moment, to the demands of the schedule.
The second week is about noticing the waves, taking care of the most important tasks, and starting to go with the flow.
The third week is when the newness wears off, and I can take care of what needs to be done and fit in the rest of my daily jobs in the gaps I have discovered.
It really does take three weeks, I think. Shorter spans of time in a certain schedule are great, but they’re like vacations – no sense of normalcy can really develop. Longer spans of time are great because they allow me to really settle into the schedule and maximize my effectiveness.
