Stagnating Is Normal

Change isn’t linear.

When you see a student stagnating in their growth, it’s easy to jump to conclusions. Are they not practicing? Do they not care? Are they incapable of the expectations you’ve given them?

While all of those are certainly possible, it’s also very likely that they are just experiencing stagnation as a precursor to growth.

Know what you’re observing before you decide what is happening. Then, support students during the very frustrating period. Doing the work but seeing no change? That’s incredibly demoralizing.

The message: Stagnating is normal. Don’t let it stop you.
