There’s something magical about getting a sneak preview of the next steps past the one you’re on.
Tonight, Shades of Blue got to hear WMU Gold Company and Frost Extensions in concert. These are truly some of the best collegiate vocal jazz groups in the world, and to hear them together was a pretty special opportunity.
Doubly special, because Shades is working hard at making this art form come alive. When they heard those groups perform, they understood intimately the work it took to get to the artistry being presented.
So often we are in little silos with our musical ensembles, never getting the chance to see and hear what’s going on. But giving groups the opportunity to get that sneak preview of what comes next if they keep working is invaluable. I know that the rest of my semester will be different because of their experience tonight.
