Is teaching selfless?
“You can say the parts of teaching that are selfless [….] The truth is this: When I am with someone who is looking for something that I have and I can give to them, […]the look on someone’s face when they get it and it becomes theirs as well, that’s the whole thing. […] Watching someone learn is one of life’s greatest joys.”
Brennan Lee Mulligan, on YouTube Study Hall
That’s why I teach, and what I am constantly looking for when I teach. That look.
So it is selfless – you’re imparting a gift to the people you teach. But it’s also selfish, as you get to experience that great joy.
