Don’t be afraid to make a deal with yourself.
I have days in my creative work where my entire self – body/mind/soul – is screaming at me to just get up and walk away from the work. “Take a break!” “Check Facebook!” “Go make a cup of tea!”
It’s so hard, in these moments, to keep working on the project that needs to get done. But sometimes, it just needs to get done. It needs to be out the door so I can move onto the next project. (The one I’m excited about…the one I’ll be avoiding next week. Ha.)
Making a deal with myself can work in this situation. I’ll take a break, but only after I finish X. I’ll check Facebook, but only while I’m printing the next draft. I’ll make the cup of tea, and then stay in my office chair until I’ve finished the whole cup.
