Fish can’t see water, just like we can’t see air. They swim in the lake but are fundamentally unaware that water exists.
I think it’s so, so important to understand the context – the water – of our lives. Whether it’s the water of our musical selections for our ensembles, the water of our cultural stories, or the water of our very humanity, we must take the time to acknowledge their existence. Fish can’t see water. We can understand it exists, even if we can’t see it.
And then, we help the people in our care to see it, too. Our students, our children, our friends and relations.
