Do you produce a seasonal product?
I live in a place with lots of season producers. Apple orchards, or Christmas tree farms.
It always strikes me as pretty strange to work in an industry where so much of your income comes in a short window. They sell Christmas trees from the day before Thanksgiving through the 24th of December. That’s about 4 weeks to sell all your product. (Obviously there’s work to be done year round, but the income happens in that short window.)
The more I think about creative work, the more it feels seasonal to me, too. I work year round to produce an album, but the real product comes in the sessions over a few weeks. I rehearse all year, but the pinnacle concert is only once a year. I arrange music year round, but get royalty checks just once a year.
It’s kind of nice, actually, to realize that you are purveying a seasonal product just as much as an apple orchard in autumn.
