Pride Doesn’t End Tomorrow

I’m here for Pride year-round.

I celebrate Pride Month not for myself, but for the family members, friends, students, and colleagues who have been historically (and not-so-historically) marginalized by bias against their identities.

The need for support doesn’t go away tomorrow, and so neither will I. In fact, I think that the support of straight-cis-male allies like me is ever-more needed, especially outside of Pride month. My showing support for the LGBTQ+ people in my life is, at its core, a display of empathy – understanding and respecting the thoughts and feelings of someone with different experiences from mine.

I default to empathy, and so I’m here for Pride year round. How about you?
