My son loves Scouting – he’s passionate and committed. But he also knows that his forward motion slows down every few months. It’s a natural cycle of the type we all go through in any activity.
When he noticed that he always gets reenergized after participating in certain optional events (extra campouts, etc.), he had an epiphany. He could plan on needing motivation down the road, and schedule it for himself before he actually needed it.
He recently signed up for a campout in mid-October; he’ll be the only one from his troop attending. He’s motivated now, but knows he might not be in a month – so he’s scheduled himself a pick-me-up.
So often, we don’t go looking for motivation until we’re in need of it. What if we took a page from my son’s book and scheduled our motivational kicks while we were still motivated?
Like booking a massage before your back hurts, this approach can keep you consistently moving forward.
Thanks, son!
