Other-Focused Ensemble Members

What can I add to this ensemble?

I think the hallmark of a really outstanding ensemble is members who are other-focused. That manifests in many ways.

In the baritones listening for the alto moving line that parallels theirs.

In conscious approaches to tuning, balance, blend, timbre with respect to ensemble.

In seeking out a fellow ensemble member after rehearsal because they didn’t seem quite themselves today.

In adding to conversation in constructive ways. (Even by withholding side conversation about if it doesn’t support the group’s work!)

In always asking what I can do to help my ensemble.

The practice of being other-focused in rehearsal is both the best thing we can do for the ensemble and the one of the best skills we can build for success regardless of future life trajectory.
