One Year On

I hope this year wasn’t too traumatic for you. I hope you found a way to make a little music, consume a little art, practice a little self-care.

One year on, I am reflecting on the clarification of my values that the COVID-19 pandemic has given me. I know my values better because I couldn’t live all of them this year. I couldn’t make music with a group. I couldn’t bring new music to my communities. I couldn’t travel with my students and show them the world. I couldn’t always spend time with the people I love most.

I also know my values better because I had new opportunities to lean into them. I know the value of reconnecting with someone after a long time. I know the value of prioritizing physical and mental health. I know the value of acting on the priorities I espouse (e.g., putting my family first.).

One year on, what have you learned? What values have been clarified for you?
